Recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York at the start of 2023, the single is a summery funk-soul bop infused with a healthy dose of horns that bring a sense of 1970s nostalgia to an otherwise contemporary sound.
In a statement, Wolf claims the single is a representation of the ups and downs she experienced while writing the upcoming album, with the constant travel and changes providing a rollercoaster of emotions that fuelled her to write ‘Cinderella’. The song was a way for Remi to step in as her “own fairy godmother” to reassure herself that she was in fact in control.
Accompanying the single is a vibrant music video co-directed by Ragan Henderson and Remi herself, who can be seen grooving away throughout sunny California in vintage style aerobics attire, complete with leg-warmers that change colours to the beat of the music. The singer bops down the streets of LA joined by a rainbow-clad ensemble of musicians and dancers, eventually approaching Mac Demarco in his cameo as an ice cream man. The pair of musicians conclude the video while boogieing together as the credits roll, perfectly embodying the cosmic and jubilant spirit of the song.
Remi Wolf will be accompanying Olivia Rodrigo as a special guest on the European leg of The ‘GUTS’ World Tour this spring, and her new album ‘Big Ideas’ is set to be released on July 12 2024.
