‘Something About You’ is without a doubt a love story. The track tells the story about a man in desperation pursuing love, feeling empty inside until he finally meets the woman of his dreams. This is perfectly shown through the lyrics “There’s something about you, I can feel it inside. I can’t live without you.”. Realising early on she is the one, ‘Something About You’ paints an image of their lives together, oozing with romantic connotations and a heart-warming feeling.
Dranow also explores other sub-genres including classic, alternative, and indie rock, but sticks to his blues-rock roots through low to high twangs of the guitar that have an impressive chord progression and rhythmic beat. Perfectly blending into an orchestral sound, violin strings can be heard and creates a level of ambiance envious of a ballad from the 70's aiding the romantic narrative.
Dranow’s lyrics are enhanced by his vocals, propelling this romantic sentiment even further. The roughness in his voice creates a whirlwind of emotions, living through the lyrics and conveying true feelings. It is this harshness and sheer passion alongside incredible guitar solos that are drawn out that really creates a vivid image in the minds of listeners.
‘Something About You’ is a true love story many individuals can relate to. Holding up a mirror to those who have gone from feeling as though something is missing to being full of love when the one comes in through their life. Gary Dranow and The Manic Emotions know how to create a narrative-driven track that is highly relatable and enjoyable.
