'Another Day' - LAYKS Single Review

Time for another fantastic new single everyone. ‘Another Day’ by LAYKS is here to fulfil all your dream-pop needs.

LAYKS is the passion project and new chapter of artist Sam Martin. His life changed with the decision to travel to LA by himself in 2019; one friend in the city, he set out on his first day to explore and fell in love.

This was the beginning of a new chapter for Martin and upon meeting many of the people who would inspire and help forge his music, the idea of LAYKS came into fruition. Launched earlier this year in the height of lockdown, it gave us a much-needed break from reality and although there has only been one previous single, we can expect much more from LAYKS.

Immediately noticeable about LAYKS and Martin himself is a deep understanding of and love for music: unafraid of mixing genres and trying new things, the songs are guitar based but venture out from there, experimenting with synths and sounds. ‘Another Day’ hooks you from the beginning with a swell to offset the following guitar riff. The music serves as a masterfully-created backdrop to Martin’s vocals which are layered to accent the dream-like quality of his music but somehow manages not to lose his obvious skill within the layers. You can hear the emotion in his voice, again not always easily highlighted within the genre which only serves to draw your attention to the sweet and heart-breaking lyrics (in fact the song is so catchy you almost forget quite how heart-breaking). It adds layers upon layers of harmonies and accent vocals, closing out with an unexpected but definitely not unwelcome synth solo, well-placed and reminiscent of some of Martin’s musical influences.

Unafraid to test the boundaries of genres and masterful at doing what it does, LAYKS is here to stay. Go stream ‘Another Day’ on all streaming platforms and buckle in kids, we’re in for the long haul here.
