‘Sleepy Head’ By EVNTYD Is Not One To Sleep On

Another great alt-rock single to add to the playlists, EVNTYD brings early Nirvana energy to the table with their newest track ‘Sleepy Head’. This song is perfect for those who love a grungier sound, however, there are elements that will appeal to a variety of listeners.

Early on in the pandemic, EVNTYD found themselves quarantining with a girl they had just started seeing. While she slept in, they would sit in the bathroom of their studio apartment and play guitar until she woke up. Well EVNTYD must be doing something right because, in a wonderful turn of events, these two are now engaged! This single proves once and for all that song can win hearts.

A heavily saturated beginning immediately immerses the listener in the vibe of the song. EVNTYD weaves deftly from tone to tone, with elements of impatience, devotion, attraction and love. That being said, the song is simple and relatable, the lyrics are never too lofty nor is the instrumentation too complex.

The track feels comfortable. The melody, while being alt-rock in its design, never strays too close to darker tonality. The lyrics, while being personal are never out of reach to those who do not know the intimate nature of EVNTYD’s relationship. The musicality feels charmingly garage-band like but with a better mix and better production.

A beautiful track to match the beautiful story, lyrically, sweetness is rife in ‘Sleepy Head’. The first verse immediately gives a sense of longing: “I’ve been up all night/Just dreaming of you/Darling rise and shine”.

There’s something infectious about the infatuation displayed here, which only grows throughout the song.

It is all too easy to get lost in the sea of new music as the industry becomes increasingly saturated. As a result, it’s all too easy to miss out on gems like this one. ‘Sleepy Head’ is a standout track that will find its way perfectly into most indie playlists out there. EVNTYD is one to watch.
