JP Saxe and Maren Morris’ new song gives an insight into writing love songs, Line By Line

If there’s one thing we can guarantee, it’s that a JP Saxe collab always hits the spot. This time is no different.

JP Saxe is back with Line By Line, a duet with Maren Morris in which their voices melt together as they present us with a song that is flawlessly written, from the lyrics to the melody.

Line By Line, released 16th Jan, is – simply put – a love song about how hard it can be to write a love song. Wondering if what you can fit into a song could possibly be enough, they say that they’ll just have to keep writing them for the rest of their lives – which to I say, keep them coming.

Nothing within the track feels overdone; with minimalistic production and sincere lyrics, Line By Line, is a song that could be related to by almost anyone. With the idea of song writing being used as a metaphor running throughout, the pair explore the bigger issue of just having to talk about your feelings in general; a universal struggle.

‘Sometimes if it don’t sound right, I apologise, I just said it ‘cause it rhymed, four chords, three minutes, you never fit in it, so I just take you line by line’ Saxe and Morris harmonise on the chorus.

Emotive and poetic, this is one of my favourite parts of the track, showcasing the power music has in terms of communicating with people you love, which is even more so the case this past year.

Once again, the song writing in this track shine’s through past everything else, making you want to listen again and again, just to be sure that you’re taking absolutely everything in – line by line.

Line by Line is a very promising lead up to JP Saxe’s album debut, due early this year. I, for one, cannot wait to hear what’s next.
