English band Blossoms delight fans with their most recent single, ‘Joke About Divorce’, their first release since 2024. Paired alongside the humorous music video, self-directed by frontman Tom Odgen, the track encompasses the Stockport lads to a T. Playful and fun with Joe Donovan’s groovy drums and the wavy synths (Myles Kellock) that carry the track, ‘Joke About Divorce’ is everything you would expect from Blossoms and then some more.
Balancing comedy with the pains of arguing with your significant other “it’s a fine mess I got myself into / I guess this argument’s not the place for a joke about divorce / you said boy you’ve got some nerve”, Ogden’s rich vocals allow listeners to find joy amongst his ill-timed attempts at humour (which many fans will also be able to relate to…) While, Charlie Salt’s smooth bass lines, give the track that trademark Blossom’s stamp that fans have come to adore.
Having never shied away from any particular genre, there are hints of jazz thrown into the mix with the funky guitars (Josh Dewhurst) and the group backing vocals that help to add to the already enjoyable storytelling. They’ve never been a group to be frightened at the prospect of telling a story as heard with other releases, including ‘Oh No (I Think I’m In Love)’, ‘To Do List (After The Breakup)’, and ‘Joke About Divorce’ finds itself being no different.
With new music just on the horizon, ‘Joke About Divorce’ marks itself as the start of an exciting new chapter for the Stockport band.
