Beginning in 2025, one of the most iconic boy bands of the 2000s, Blue launched their full international tour to celebrate their 25th Anniversary. By the time the tour reached the Bristol Beacon, it was a near sell-out show, and the stunning hall was brought to life - the long-anticipated wait did not disappoint.
The first to perform was the London-based singer-songwriter Mini Simioni, who joined Blue for the majority of their UK part of the tour. Performing a short but powerful set, Simioni’s voice complemented the room, captivating the audience and bringing them to their feet when the set was finished. As a natural live performer, Simioni blends classical vocals with pop elements, producing music that is both moving and upbeat. Simioni’s high-energy performance connected with the audience, regardless of the dynamic between the three acts of the night. The latest release, ‘Hummingbird’, was featured during the set, offering a delicate classical-inspired song that unfolds into a statement piece with an infectious upbeat rhythm.
Joining the lineup next was 911, and it felt like stepping straight into the ‘90s. With a string of their UK Top 10 hits and iconic dance choreography, the trio delivered a set that was also packed with their cheeky crowd-pleasing charm. With the original members Lee Brennan, Jimmy Constable & Simon “Spike” Dawbarn, their set was designed with their biggest hits to get the audience fully engaged - and that's exactly what they did at the Bristol show. They gave it their all in their performance, and far from feeling dated, they were received by a multi-generational audience, which was a clear reminder of just how strong their fan base remains after more than 25 years. When the emotional ballad ‘I Do’ started to play, the atmosphere shifted from that fun and cheeky vibe to a more emotional ballad with couples swaying together and sharing quiet, affectionate moments.
Whilst the anticipation grew in the short interval for the wait for Blue, the atmosphere soon shifted when the teasing shadows of the band members were portrayed on the curtain. When Blue finally emerged, the response from the crowd was euphoric! Opening with ‘One Last Time’, the moment felt symbolic for their return to the stage, but performed with confidence and pitch-perfect notes of a band that is still in its prime.
The set featured heartfelt tributes to people they have worked with over their 25 years, including Robbie Williams, through their track ‘Flowers’, and, in an unexpectedly beautiful gesture, the band gave roses to individuals in the audience.
The playful, childlike banter between the band members was a clear reminder to the audience that they are still a close-knit group of friends who have stood by each other through the thick and thin of the last 25 years, and who seem certain to continue to do so for many years to come. It also triggered a positive response from the audience; it proved that this was an experience that both the audience and Blue were enjoying, and did not want to forget.
As the night was nearing the end, it was clear that this was not just a performance; it was a connection and a celebration of shared memories of their nostalgic past. Blue performed with renewed purpose, hinting that there will be more to come with releases being teased. From the moment that Blue stepped onto the stage, there were intimate moments, emotional sing-alongs, and dancing that was carried throughout the venue.
By the final encore, the Bristol Beacon was alive; this was not just a celebration but a teaser of what is in store for Blue.
