As the leaves adopt a new colour palette and nights lengthen, Birmingham-based singer-songwriter Genevieve Miles has recently coined an appropriate soundtrack to match, with the release of her newest single ‘Cinnamon’.
The latest and last single to be lifted from her upcoming EP ‘Then It Gets Worse’, set for release on the 14th of November, ‘Cinnamon’ revels in a dark elegance. Heralded by Miles as a moment of ‘joy and celebration’, the track encloses velvet vocals that lap and lull in the listener’s eager ear, whilst similarly featuring a plucking guitar, shrouded in a reverbed mysticism.
With a mesmeric melody that mimics a flickering flame, ‘Cinnammon’ is propelled by gothic excellence. Boasting a cosmic layered production, the track exudes a warming allure, which is only bolstered by sweetened, grounded lyrics such as “let the river flow / I’m finally home”. In ‘Cinnamon’, Miles successfully harnesses both emboldened emotion and delicate romanticism, which in turn culminates in alt-rock of the most graceful kind.
Building on her previous release, the intricately vulnerable ‘Sweet To Be Alone’, Miles is crafting a discography that is ever joyous, yet ever introspective. To celebrate the release of her impending EP, Miles is playing at Birmingham’s beloved alternative haunt, The Night Owl, on the 15th of November. Tickets can be found here.
