The moment has come- Twin Atlantic’s latest release is here

‘Bang on the Gong’, Twin Atlantic’s latest release, is a suave, stylish track that takes the band in a new direction whilst maintaining undertones of their classic sound.

The Scottish band, made up of Sam McTrusty, Ross McNae, and Craig Kneale, released ‘Bang on the Gong’ a year and a half after the success of their 2020 album ‘POWER’. This latest release marks the start of a new era for Twin Atlantic ahead of their tour this August.

As usual, Twin Atlantic have added interesting quirks to the track which show that they continue to experiment with genre and step out of any sort of comfort zones. The start, middle, and end of the track feature spoken sections by a frustrated voice, including a straight to the point outro- “I’m sick of ye”. This adds another layer to the track as it sounds like a conversation between characters, maybe linking to the video.

The accompanying music video, inspired heavily by Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood’, features frontman McTrusty taking on the persona of a presenter on an imagined 70’s TV show- ‘Bang on the Gong’. Director Nick Afchain shows McTrusty decked out in 70’s fashion, shadowed by backing dancers grooving to the smooth lead guitar riff. The video ends with McTrusty leaving the set of the show, followed by a black screen with the words “to be continued…”, possibly suggesting new music to come, or perhaps even a continuation of this storyline, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Via Twitter, the band said that this song was "inspired by looking to the future when we can all be back together again", and to be reunited by music. The lyrics reflect this, with lines such as “bang on the gong/my moment has come”, suggesting that the long-awaited moment for live music has come.

‘Bang on the Gong’ is a powerful release after their latest album and an exciting look at what may be to come from the band. As they said via their Instagram, “it’s time to dance, it’s time to groove”, and ‘Bang on the Gong’ certainly gives us that.
