Blossoms - Christmas Eve (Soul Purpose) - A Short Film

Considering the year we have all had, Christmas provides us with that extra dash of happiness and cheer we could all benefit from. Something to focus our attention on, rather than the grim news we are so used to hearing. Blossoms release of their double A-side ‘Christmas Eve (Soul Purpose’/ ‘Its going to be a cold winter’, plus their short film, is a great source of Christmas cheer and I personally have found it to be a real pick me up.

The songs themselves are unlike any other Christmas song I’ve heard, a really unique take on the classic Christmas song. Music so full of joy, it’s impossible not to be happy after listening to them. They make me want to grab a selection box, put the heating on and sit down to watch a classic Christmas film, one of those songs. They also remind you of the best parts of Christmas, spending time with your family and friends, indulging in good food but also the importance of looking after others, something I feel we all need to do more this year.

Besides releasing some absolutely cracking music, they also released a short film to go with ‘Christmas Eve (Soul Purpose), going the extra mile as always. Created by Edwin Burdis and animated by Astrid Goldsmith of Mock Duck Studios, the short film features vocal appearances from Blossoms themselves, as well as Rowetta from Happy Mondays and comedian Lloyd Griffith.

The video comprises of an animated sketch in which Blossoms are portrayed by a selection of animals, who while drinking in their local pub come across missing reindeer Roy (aka Roy the Rapid Reindeer). The group then help Roy get back to the North Pole to save Christmas.

Now, you may be quite confused, and trust me I was to begin with, but I really recommend everyone go and watch it, its 16 minutes of pure happiness. The film is full of the bands humour, and if you’ve listened to any of their podcasts you’ll be familiar with what I mean. I don’t know whether its their voices coming out of small animated animals or the great one liners that make it so funny, but this short film is bound to make anyone laugh. If you’re looking for something short but sweet to cheer you up or you’re not yet in the Christmas spirit I highly recommend grabbing a mince pie and sitting down to watch their short film, I promise you won’t regret it.
