thredd - the combined force of artist Will Lister, Imogen William (Imogen and the Knife) and Max Winter - have followed a massively successful year of festival performances with their new single ‘Swimming’. The track is the band’s first single since the release of their debut album ‘It’s Lovely, Come On In’ in August of last year.
Unlike tracks from their previous album, the music overpowers the vocals, but listeners don’t necessarily need to hear the lyrics to understand the emotion. In a recent interview, the group describes the song as “Party’s lighter younger sister who just wants the city to carry her through the night. Swimming from gig to bar to club,” and that’s exactly what it feels like. The lyrics describe a pair of guys who are out on the town and “Swim swimming / Still rocking / Lip locking”. Much like the boys in the song, the track seems to flow effortlessly from start to finish with an electric club beat that repeats throughout to connect it all. Ultimately, ‘Swimming’ somehow manages to feel exactly like what one would expect to hear standing outside the club with friends, deciding where to go next.
It’s unclear yet if ‘Swimming’ is that start of thredd ushering in a new sound or simply a variation of what made their previous work so successful. However, what is obvious is that the trio remain a strong force in the cold-pop scene.
