Canada’s very own experimental pop artist Julia Fedec (professionally known as Sevun) has announced the release of her upcoming album ‘Fever Dream’, kicking off the new era with the lead single ‘Afterglow’.
Fedec brings a refreshing evolution to her discography as she begins to transition from the angsty, psychedelic pop of her debut album, ‘Creatures of Habit’. The intentional glitch in the beginning of the song signifies the start of her new journey and highlights not only her growth as an individual, but as a musician as well.
Her vocals float effortlessly over the fast-paced, bubbly guitar strumming as she swoons over her muse in an incredibly endearing way. “Pour yourself into me / I don’t care when the world is going out / Don’t want to see…”. While staying true to her artistry, Fedec masterfully avoids the typical clichés of a standard love song. She possesses this unique ability to make the rush of infatuation feel completely immersive, giving the track its kinetic energy. Ultimately, her choice of strings makes the feeling of falling in love feel extremely warranted, sounding as if she had never associated darkness and anxiety with romance in the first place.
The creations of Fedec only strengthen with every release. Her sophomore album arrives in 2027, which will showcase her songwriting, production, and film skills all in one body of work.
