As she wraps up the end of the US leg of the ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ tour, British popstar Charli xcx has announced that a selection of her tour and stage outfits will be sold to fans on Vinted as part of a charity drive.
In a statement released by the pre-loved clothing resale site Vinted, it is announced that a selection of outfits carefully chosen from both her personal archive and tour wardrobe will be available to purchase in the UK, US and Australia. With the sale beginning on 16th November, proceeds will go to LGBTQI+ charity Rainbow Railroad, whose mission is to assist and support at-risk LGBTQI+ individuals in finding safety from persecution and violence.
Founded in 2006, Rainbow Railroad was mobilised to provide support to LGBTQI+ individuals who face immediate risk of danger, violence, or serious financial hardship. Rainbow Railroad helps queer refugees relocate to safer countries through their work with refugee programs, helping to cover travel expenses, documentation, and accommodation or settlement in communities as cases require. They can provide information, mental health support, referrals, and crisis support to those in individual cases of hardship as well as larger local communities in the US and Canada. They work tirelessly with other organisations and human rights campaigners to encourage governments and the United Nations to strengthen and protect advocacy, research and support networks for LGBTQI+ displaced people globally.
Charli has been a long-term ally and loud supporter of LGBTQI+ causes, donating a percentage of the profits from this tour to Transgender Law Center, famously working with Grindr in 2020 for a virtual DJ set, and regularly expressing how grateful she is to her large gay fanbase for their continued support.
Chosen alongside her stylist and friend Chris Horan, the pieces in this sale include a Roberto Cavalli dress worn during two of her tour stops. This was itself bought from a Vinted seller, who happened to have been in the audience of the Los Angeles show and witnessed its stage debut! Other items include a sheer blouse worn in San Diego and a selection of vintage T-shirts. The pair have also stated that they will be looking to source her next looks from Vinted.
As a notoriously thrifty figure, Charli is no stranger to the remodelling of iconic pieces of her wardrobe. “I hate this idea that you get this thing made, and then you’re never gonna put it on again. It’s such a waste, what's the point?”, she told Loïc Prigent about repurposing the Vivienne Westwood gown from her 2025 Hackney Town Hall wedding to The 1975’s George Daniel into a costume for the video for ‘Rock Music’. Her effortlessly chic afterparty dress was a repurpose too, having been worn a month prior when she made a surprise guest appearance in Paris to perform ‘Cherry Blossom Girl’ with Air.
The silhouette Charli has chosen for this new era is like the elevated, sophisticated older sister of the 365 partygirl image of her we saw during the ‘BRAT’ tour. ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ has established a new “uniform”, if you like, to define the era, representing the complete tonal shift sonically. This last year has shown an evolution in Charli’s outward image as she explores the new realms opened to her with the immense commercial success that ‘BRAT’ provided.
Last summer, when ‘BRAT’ was dramatically brought to a close with the symbolic burning of the iconic green curtain that opened her shows, many fans were left wondering what her next steps would be, and I’m sure not many could have predicted within the year there would be two new original albums, her feature film debut in Erupcja, and a mockumentary inspired by the insanity of the ‘BRAT’ phenomenon. As a result of this, there has been a strong evolution in her sound as she has begun to pull away from the heavy thrumming beats of her club record. ‘Wuthering Heights’, an album produced to soundtrack the latest adaptation of the classic novel by Emily Brontë, was an ethereal experiment with strings and a vastly different sound than fans have heard from her before. ‘Music, Fashion, Film’, her second record to be released this year, was different again, with a forward emphasis on heavily textured vocals and guitar.
Despite these records being vastly different from her previous works (and from each other), they are both concept pieces that aid in understanding Charli’s ever-expanding repertoire of works across mediums. The selling of the wardrobe and passing of the torch allows a continual regeneration of her personal branding, and in an age where mass overconsumption is the expectation and the norm, it is refreshing to see a celebrity encouraging maximising the lifespan of a product.
Charli’s wardrobe will be available to purchase from the 16th of November, with more information on the specific items to be announced on the 8th. The ‘Music, Fashion, Film’ Tour will be coming to the UK and Europe in February.
