Deleter Prove Their Sharper Edge With ‘Pitchfork’

Hailing from the North’s music capital, Deleter are a Manchester-based band that skirts the post-punk genre. Their explosive anthems boast a mix of clean production and underlying rage, something unique that proves as beneficial as ever. If their output here is anything to go by, the industry can certainly make room.

Their latest single, ‘Pitchfork’, is a delightful two and a half minutes of frenetic energy. The track opens with a rhythmic count-in to drums before rolling into these heavy beats. Deleter are clearly one for their instrumentals, with sharp cymbals that punctuate throughout and give this room-trembling sound some notable hits.  A special mention must also be given to the guitarist and bassist at play here, because there are few tracks these days that have rewarded their bassist so heavily in composition. The bassline thumps with the bounce of a souped-up pogo stick - possibly the only way to describe such energy; toe-tapping, head-banging, and beautifully limb-shaking. Any strums of power chords chuck the melody along for the ride.

Yet, the all-important question of the frontman’s ability lies ahead, and it’s one to be answered with steely assurance. There’s a dynamic presence to be heard within Deleter’s sound - the vocals are loud and guttural, veering in and out of sprechgesang territory to add a further punk edge. This technique gives listeners insight into the witty lyricism, spinning tales of the “grip of sweaty hands”, a charming image, but perfectly on-brand.

With early singles like this, surefire breaks into success are on the way, and Deleter are one to keep a close eye on. It’s time to get back in the moshpits.
