Beabadoobee Wakes Up From Her Hibernation With Shiny Single ‘Sun Has Set’

Beabadoobee has been pretty quiet for the past couple of years, since the release of ‘This Is How Tomorrow Moves’ in mid-2024, but now she’s back, and she’s not afraid to make some noise.

It seemed as though Beabadoobee was simply incapable of slowing down following 2022's‘Beatopia’ , tour after release after tour, and of course, supporting the one and only Taylor Swift somewhere in between - so a break was surely essential. ‘Pylon’ is set to drop in September, featuring Hayley Williams of Paramore, the coolest band 15 years ago, and Brendan Yates of Turnstile, the coolest band right now, so there’s really no chance of disappointment with those two by your side.

‘Sun Has Set’ is only two minutes and 21 seconds long, but that makes sense; it’s merely a peek into what’s to come. Within the first ten seconds comes an inviting resemblance to very early Paramore (think: ‘All We Know Is Falling’) not only due to the thrashing instrumentals, but the dire angst of it all, opening up with the lyrics "Steal / Weigh it down / Tough lovin' / Don't let go of / The feelings too / Cold-hearted / Stay honest". Cut-throat and straight to the point, this song wholeheartedly has the grit of an early 2000s pop-punk deep cut.

It’s enlightening to hear Beabadoobee sway back to her roots. This is her modern-day ‘Care’ from ‘Fake It Flowers’, strikingly grown-up, sharper, snappier and a little less sane, but in a way that works.

She’s always leaned into that "rockstar and not the rockstar’s girlfriend" state of mind, which makes her so popular amongst young women, and her loud resentment shines through on this track, reminiscent of Alanis Morissette’s ‘Jagged Little Pill’, an undeniable influence. It’s refreshing to see an artist suit a blatant attitude, and fans can now anticipate how this track fits in with the rest of the album.
