Released in tandem with the announcement of her third album, ‘Violins,’ Blondshell’s new single of the same name leaves no room to doubt that singer-songwriter Sabrina Teitelbaum isn’t giving up her angst any time soon. Known for bluntly speaking her mind with tracks like ‘Salad’ and ‘T&A’, Blondshell continues her open-book writing with lines like: “You don't make promises that you can't keep / So you don't make promises to me.”
In a recent press release, Teitebaum explains that she likes “the idea of weeding out people that aren’t going to let me have limitations,” and ‘Violins’ is all about the frustration of continual disappointment from other people. Yet there’s also the feeling of reluctance to let yourself heal at your own pace. In the chorus, she reminds herself, “it’s not overnight”, giving herself the grace to take life as it comes.
The track is filled with her now-characteristic her raw emotional vocals, reminiscent of Annie DiRusso or Devon Again, backed with 90s grunge-tinged guitar. As the song continues, her voice is almost drowned out by the bass, and she can just barely be heard in the outro, repeating “I hope heads don't roll, they rest lightly on your shoulder”.
‘Violins’ is set to drop September 25th, and in anticipation, Blondshell will be performing at festivals over the summer, including Summerfest and Maha festival. Later this fall, following the album's release, Teitelbaum will begin her North American and European tour.
