Behind The Music: Download 2026

Download Festival has earned a reputation by booking some of the biggest acts in alternative, rock and metal music. Everyone from Metallica to Baby Metal to Bring Me The Horizon have had a chance to grace the stage in Donington. However, there is much more to this event than the main stage performances. Increasingly, the stages exclusive to campers have included comedy, wellness and interactive games for festival goers to enjoy. There’s also a wide variety of stalls ranging from merchandise, jewellery and food to enjoy both in and out of the arena.

As well as hosting exclusive gigs back at camp, there are sets that culminate in a variety of different expressions. Rockfit has become a staple for many festival goers. Taking place in the infamous Doghouse each morning, this is the perfect way to cure a hangover and start a festival day. Keeping fit with a rock and metal soundtrack is something that goes down a storm in a festival like Download. The Den houses Bongo's Bingo over the weekend. This is the perfect activity for lively groups to enjoy a game combined with plenty of audience participation. For those looking for something calmer, Flow State Wellness takes place at The Outpost. Even at a rock and metal festival, it is important to have something that can help maintain mindfulness and relaxation for those seeking it. For those looking to test their knowledge, there is even a Nevermind The Download Pub Quiz.

Whilst the official list of this year’s food stalls hasn’t yet been released, there is sure to be an exciting mixture of cuisines. Bunnyman’s Bunnychow has become a festival favourite in recent years. They create South African-inspired chilli that delivers an insane flavour explosion. The Roaming Rotisserie provides delicious rotisserie chicken, which is definitely a filling choice to keep the energy going. Another great option is Big Mouth Gyoza, who provide everything from a small plate to a sharing platter. The days of living off soggy chips and stale crisps over the weekend are long gone!

In a more general sense, the arena has plenty to explore. The Ferris wheel has become a staple for many festival goers to see the site in full as well as take some incredible photos. As well as the official merchandise stand, the arena offers a myriad of stalls for anyone who fancies a bit of shopping. Many centre around alternative fashion and jewellery.
