The dark and grunge instrumentals in ‘One Day to Live’ reflect the song’s message about “Over- privileged idiots” who are asking the question of “What would you do with just one day to live?” Lowe concludes in the song that everyone’s final day would look drastically different with the immense wealth and privileges some people have. In comparison to the darker realities faced by those who live in a warzone, where they spend each day expecting it to be their last.
The track opens with the melodic violin work of Katie Couriel, who effectively holds the somber message at the front and centre. Accompanied by the mesmerising vocals of frontman Seb Lowe, who effortlessly conveys the heaviness of the question he’s asking throughout the song through lower range melodies. Alongside them, Joel Goodwin masterfully works the drums, creating a pulsating rhythm which keeps the track moving. Musically, it holds the hypnotic indie folk sound that Lowe has made himself known for.
Seb Lowe continuously asks the question of “What would you do with just one day to live?” a question which we have all certainly pondered to ourselves before.
‘One Day to Live’ follows previous releases including ‘Don’t Say No to Hitler’ and ‘I’m Hateful, I’m Horrible, I Love You’, which demonstrate Lowe’s skill for combining social commentary with infectious melodies.
With the UK tour underway, this track was destined to be played live, and those catching Seb Lowe this tour will be among the first to hear the new music in the way it was intended to be heard. Following this headline tour, they will take on new audiences with Sofia Isella on a tour around Europe.
