Tooth continues to shape their sound with their latest release, 'Medicine’, a single that captures the intoxicating feeling of being completely consumed by another. This track leans further into the emotional side of the band, making love feel like an intense feeling of affection and dependency.
From the opening lines, the song immediately establishes the overwhelming infatuation: “She sells stimulation, I feel it in my chest / It wounds in ways I can’t explain / And when we talk, it leaves me out of breath.” This imagery paints love as something that can be almost physical. Fascination can turn into something deeper, where the presence of another being affects every emotional response one can have.
Even in the closing lines, that feeling holds true, “And if she were an impure pill / I'd take her still / So she’d stay within - / My skin / Like medicine.” Love may not always be perfect, but the desire to keep one close remains stronger than the hesitation to let them go. The multiple comparisons of medicine throughout the track capture the core meaning of this song: something can become necessary and simply feel incomplete without it.
With only two releases so far, ‘Medicine’ continues to show how Tooth is building a sound that has not been touched on in recent years.
