The Leadmill was an events space based in Sheffield that held live music, club nights, comedy, and much more. Although loved by the community - locals and university students alike - the venue closed down in June 2025 after 45 years and more than 10 million visitors.
Now, a relocation Crowdfunder has been set up to find a new home for the venue, with hopes to bring back the vibes and reignite the story of the longest-running live music venue and nightclub in the city.
Voted Sheffield’s best live music venue a number of times, alongside winning awards from NME and Live UK, over the years, it hosted artists such as Coldplay, Lewis Capaldi, and (of course) the city's local heroes Arctic Monkeys. Popular comedians like Ed Gamble, James Acaster, and Rachel Parris also graced the stage, giving the venue its laughs and equally adding to its charm.
After closing, the University of Sheffield’s Student Union Club, The Foundry, has continued to hold what they call Leadmill Fridays Club Night, yet many students have voiced how it is just not the same.
Reaching out to their fans' hearts, the Crowdfunder says: “We’re independent. No grants, no council funding, no safety net. This isn’t about starting over. It’s about continuing something that matters. Together, we can reopen those famous doors to welcome the next 10 million visitors.”
Aiming to hit a target of £30,000 by mid-May, The Leadmill Relocation Fund is over a sixth of the way to its goal. Floods of donations have come through for the business, some sharing their thoughts around the venue. One said that he “spent most of my uni years going to the original location. It was sad to see it go. I would love for a new location and another excuse to return to my home away from home”, whilst another commented that they “grew up with the Leadmill so it always meant something. Iconic is just the right word.”
