Following on from her hit ‘you broke my heart’, French singer-songwriter Myla has dropped her first release of 2026. ‘I know you cry’ is a devastatingly relatable heartbreak song centred around an emotionally unavailable man. From the first note, the instrumental envelops the listener in a warm glow, creating an ethereal yet melancholic sound. With the starting verse addressing the former lover, there’s insight into how they tend to “run away” and play “pretend”, resulting in them drifting. Myla’s soft vocals sit delicately on top of the understated production, heightening its emotional weight as every word feels intimate and purposeful.
The chorus then kicks in with a sense of frustration, again referencing a lack of emotional maturity in the relationship. “you let your pride take over your life” is in relation to hiding tears, which is the perfect illustration of this. Myla sings about how she knows he is upset, but he just hides it away.
The second verse opens with “I heard you say its cause your father left”, implying that past trauma is a reason to validate mistreating someone. It exposes the overused excuse, separating genuine pain from deliberate manipulation.
‘I know you cry’ stands out for its quiet honesty. It captures the exasperation of a partner lacking emotional intelligence, and how quickly insecurity can turn a relationship sour.
