If ‘Loaded With Pearls’ is anything to go off of, ‘Who’ve You Come As?, Pt. 2’ is poised to be a big hitter. The kind of release that not only cements Balancing Act’s sound but also pushes them toward a new level in their career.
With its heavier chorus and melodic verses, you’ll be hooked after the first listen. The pulsing rhythm and signature dynamic shifts keep the song driving forward; every beat and lyric feel intentional and unpredictable at the same time. Patrick Hanbury’s drums anchor the track, and combined with Kai Jon Roberts’ vocals, create a groove you won’t be able to resist moving to.
The cyclical nature of the lyrics, starting and ending with “yesterday I rode the train to ever glow”, is just one hint at the push and pull of emotion in this song. The next hint is the juxtaposition of “I never wanted to be alone” with the chorus repeating “if it’s me you want then please let me on my way”. It’s telling the listener a story of a relationship tipping into toxicity, quietly insisting that sometimes it’s healthier to be alone than with someone who only ever takes from you. It leans into the old idea: if you love something, you should let it go—if they’re meant for you, they’ll return.
If you haven’t seen Balancing Act live yet, you should. This track is as close as you’ll get on record to the electric energy of their shows.
