Coming out of Glasgow, Plasticine are a staple of the ever-present Scottish indie scene. Combining grunge-like guitars, punchy indie hooks, and emotionally honest songwriting, they’ve quickly made a name for themselves on the scene. Their momentum has been built the hard way, through relentless gigging and songs that hit hardest in a live setting. It's a slow rise that has been organic rather than manufactured.
With their 2025/26 tour coming to a close, we chat with Plasticine about their future plans and desert island picks as part of the Seven Questions with Music Is To Blame series.
Introduce yourself and where you’re from.
We’re Plasticine and we’re from Glasgow.
What do our readers need to know about you?
We make a lot of noise. It really depends what they’d want to know, we’re an open book.
What have you got coming up that you’re most excited for?
We have the Together Again Festival in Cheshire coming up in July. We will also be releasing an EP this year, which will be super exciting since the past year was a bit non-existent for us. But mainly just lots of new gigs and getting back out there.
What’s the best run-in you’ve had with a fan?
Probably before a show in Edinburgh we arrived at the venue and there was a letter waiting for us from someone called Andy just describing how the music fit into his life, that was really nice and encouraging.
What’s been your biggest ‘I’ve made it’ moment so far?
Definitely playing at the Barrowland Ballroom a couple of years back supporting Don Broco. Also the festival stage slot at TRNSMT as well. Then a third would be BBC Radio One when we played on the introducing show.
What are your three desert island albums?
Bob (guitar):
‘Siamese Dream’ - Smashing Pumpkins
‘In Utero’ - Nirvana
‘The Vertigo of Bliss’ - Biffy Clyro
Ross (guitar):
‘The Sophtware Slump’ - Grandaddy
‘Absolution’ - Muse
‘Funeral’ - Arcade Fire
Connor (bass):
‘Pretty On The Inside’ - Hole
‘X&Y’ - Coldplay
‘Revolver’ - The Beatles
Summer (lead vocalist):
‘Doolittle’ - Pixies
‘Last Night In The Bittersweet’ - Paulo Nutini
‘Let Go’ - Avril Lavigne
Sum up your sound in three words.
Really, f*cking, amazing.
