Meghan Trainor makes a powerful return with her second single from her seventh album, ‘Toy With Me’. An upbeat, girls-supporting-girls anthem, Trainor maintains her signature sound by blending the vibe of her old music but also keeping up with pop's current soundscapes.

From the first beat, the track bursts into energy. There's powerful percussion blended with incredible, angelic backing vocals and a chorus that is perfectly built for carpool karaoke. The track leans into her love of vintage pop, with a brand new rebrand and image. It’s catchy without feeling forced, along with being bright and electric. 

Lyrically, ‘Get In Girl’ is played as if Trainor was having a conversation with a friend in an unhealthy relationship, encouraging her to break it off. Rather than bed-rotting through a heartbreak, Trainor proves she will always show up for her friends through the lows and highs. This isn’t about loss but instead about building a solid community around oneself during a difficult time. The repetitive encouragement and support throughout the chorus feels intentional, almost as if it was designed to be shouted and danced through a club with your girlfriends.

Vocally, she’s confident and controlled, placing a playful tone throughout the track. Trainor shows her unserious side throughout this song instead of a ballad about the sad side of heartbreak. But what stands out in ‘Get In Girl’ is the simple but deep and playful uniqueness of the song. It doesn’t attempt to bring back vintage pop and reinvent pop music currently, but commits to the full joy of Trainor’s interest in vintage pop. 

With this single, Meghan Trainor reminds listeners that girls need to uplift and support one another, not pull each other down.
