‘Eve’ Takes Teenage Band The Kellows In An Exciting New Direction

Quickly rising into the spotlight after receiving airtime on huge radio stations including Radio X and BBC 6 MusicThe Kellows have finally released their long-awaited single ‘Eve’.

Hitting the ground running, Reuben Huddleston’s rolling drum beat opens up the song brilliantly before continuing to carry the rest of the track. Highlighted by the short but breathtaking drum solo near the end, ‘Eve’ entices the listener throughout its three-minute runtime. Paired with Evan Applegate’s soaring guitars give the song that certain danceability which many other bands often fall short of the mark in doing.

Keeping things simple, everything works extraordinarily well together. There’s no one instrument scrambling to be the loudest; it’s the delicate balance of all of them together that lets the song stand out. It also gives it The Kellows' trademark catchiness, which is heard on previous releases including ‘Breathe Me In’ and ‘Do You Want Me To?’. Lead singer Will Harris’ vocals have an edge and a hint of vulnerability behind them, drawing listeners in even closer and making them hang onto every word. Charlie May’s subtle yet infatuating bass complements this even more, elevating the single to heights that are often only ever dreamed of being reached.

‘Eve’ is a stellar example of a sing-along anthem. With lyrics including “won’t you leave my soul? / and it’s a thousand times or more that I get to you, my dear”, they’re catchy and easy to get behind, allowing listeners to let loose and just enjoy the music.

Alt-rock at its finest, the jangly guitar riffs that permeate the end help to prove just why, despite them being so young, the Sheffield band are already making waves in the U.K’s music scene. Having already secured slots at some of the most exciting festivals like SXSW in London, ‘Eve’ truly showcases that the only direction for the teenagers is up.
