Yungblud And The Smashing Pumpkins: A Collaboration To Totally Rock The Music Scene

When two high-profile artists collaborate on tracks or albums, it is always one for the record books. Fan bases come together to bask in the genius of multiple musical minds, and the result? A piece of music that excites such a vast array of people and introduces others to new bands, artists, and genres. To kick off 2026, we have been given one of the most significant collaborations of recent years, the first from band The Smashing Pumpkins as they join forces with the notorious Yungblud to reconceptualise his track ‘Zombie’

The track seeks to give the original version a fresh influx of life and meaning, a greater depth that serves to heighten the sense of pain and trauma that the original concerns itself with. Immediately, there’s a flurry of well-orchestrated and beautifully constructed instrumentals followed by the familiar vocals of Yungblud. As expected with this artist, we are entirely captivated by the powerful levels of emotion and passion in his voice; combining this with Billy Corgan in the second verse is a stroke of genius.

Corgan’s vocals complement the grief and sense of anguish that the track seeks to depict. He adds intensity and richness with the unique style of his voice and clear lyrical understanding. The pair never seem to argue or fight, nor do they seem to be taking us on a journey, as we see with so many tracks and especially collaborations today. Instead, they fight to depict the internal battle so many of us deal with. The fight for the recognition of isolation and the true grief of the self that comes with it. They serve to amplify one another, not work against each other.

The final lyrics Corgan sings alone are “So say your prayers / You’re almost there”, as he passes the microphone back to Yungblud, he marks the end of this first collaboration and leaves listeners with a profound and fervent experience.

This reimagined version of ‘Zombie’ is not only heavier but also deeply speaks to the niche of both artists. Its global recognition is testament to its genius, and its melancholy finds home in the guitar chords.
