King No-One strike while the iron’s hot with their latest release ‘Blake’. The third single to be taken from their eagerly anticipated debut album, ‘The Burden of Empathy’, it paints the band in a slightly darker light, allowing them to fully show just how versatile they truly are.
Having been around for over a decade, it seems like there’s no stopping the trio, as they reach jaw-dropping new heights, with this tune proving just that. From Joe Martin’s keys providing glitchy sounds and a modern feel to Zach Lount’s restless vocals, you can’t help but listen to what the song has to say.
The Leeds-based rockers have always been political, and this track isn’t any different. Lyrics like “Children going hungry / being human should be enough to exist on your own terms / escaping distraction in the violence” perfectly encapsulate the hopelessness and discontent that many in society are currently feeling, especially in today’s polarised world.
However, it is the ending that truly brings the song to life. Marked by hard-hitting guitar riffs and Rob Grantion’s thumping bass, the energy that’s been built up finally lets loose, leaving a lasting impression upon listeners well after the last note has rang out.
Addictive and dripping with emotion, ‘Blake’ offers an exciting glimpse into what ‘The Burden Of Empathy’ has to offer.
