Balancing Act, the indie rock quartet from Manchester, released their newest single ‘Sunshine’ on 15th January, in anticipation of their upcoming UK/EU tour ‘Who’ve you come as Pt 2’. Led by frontman Kai Jon Roberts, the band celebrate yet another mosh-worthy track, with an emotional undercurrent.
The band wrote on their Instagram announcement of ‘Sunshine’ that it was, “A song that was resurrected from the darkest depths of the cloud. Thank the lord we stumbled upon it again because it gets us all moving in a way we haven't loved in a long time.” Igniting enthusiasm amongst fans about what they have in store.
Armed with guitars and visceral excitement, ‘Sunshine’ opens with heavy guitar riffs and captivating drum beats, swiftly entrancing the listener through its repetitive and hypnotic vocals. As the song progresses and anticipation builds, ‘Sunshine’ takes you on a journey, descending into madness. Lyrics such as “The weight of shadows weighs a tonne” and “you know how to win when losing is fun” convey the song's undertone and emotional depth, encouraging you to delve into its meaning.
Guitar shifts signal a turning point, as we’re exposed to the song's underbelly, cornering you with repetitions of “Go and tell your mama / Go and tell your doctor / Go and tell somebody who loves” until the vocals are so strained and desperate, awakening something within the song and propelling it into a rock anthem. The song ends with the sound of the guitar being ripped from its amp, tying the track together perfectly.
‘Sunshine’ consumes you through its flawless layering and repetition, meshed with unruly riffs and drums that power the heart of the rhythm, and lyrics that invite you in - shining a light on their experience as a group and how they channelled it together. This cathartic track claims its place in your playlist for its raw, stripped-back vocals, deeply heartfelt yet quippy lyrics and overall high-energy vibe. You won’t be forgetting it anytime soon, after all, it’s ‘Sunshine’.
