Following along from the previous two singles from their much-anticipated debut album, Dead Dads Club explore grief on their latest ‘Volatile Child’. Taking on a slightly different route than the dark and twisted ‘Goosebumps’ and the punchy ‘Don’t Blame the Sons for the Sins of the Father’, ‘Volatile Child’ makes its own name for itself and delightfully surpasses all expectations.
Produced by Fontaines D.C’s guitarist Carlos O’Connell, it’s a magnificent testament to what the band can create from loss and how deeply their work connects with listeners.
Paired alongside the touching lyricism “Life is precious / I’m always looking inwards” and the screeching of the ending, it perfectly encapsulates the feeling of grief and the haunting isolation. You can still hear the other instruments in the background while this goes on, most notably Rupert Greaves’ fantastically searing guitars. By doing this, it beautifully represents how even though it can all feel overwhelming at times, there’s still light at the end of the tunnel.
The third single from their upcoming self-titled album, ‘Volatile Child’ leaves us eagerly awaiting to see what comes next.
