Holly Humberstone Returns With Gothic Love Song ‘Die Happy’

Over a year on from her last release, singer-songwriter Holly Humberstone has returned with her latest single ‘Die Happy’.

This long-awaited track is an explosive love song steeped in gothic motifs, as she upcycles the dark melancholy of her previous projects into something more gushing and hopeful.

It’s a composite tale of romance, as she switches from plain spelling to vivid metaphor -  “You asked me if we could hold hands forever and ever” to “So hit the gas”. This highlights the push and pull of intimacy, from safety to surrender – themes she’s long juggled, but is only now, for the first tim,e embracing together in her sonic balancing act.

Die Happy’ plays out with a cinematic intensity, as Humberstone sings “I want it fast, want it reckless” over expansive instrumentation, her vocals bolder and brighter than ever before. This upbeat shift seems to hint at a tonal and thematic overhaul in her next release – while unexpected, totally welcome, if this gorgeously exhilarating tune is anything to go by.
