On the back of the announcement of a farewell tour, Megadeth have also unveiled the release of their final album, with a brand new single, ‘Tipping Point’.
All worry is laid to rest with the opening harmonised guitars leading straight into a solo. This may be their last album, but Megadeth aren't going out with a whimper, but instead more of a signature Dave Mustaine snarl.
The sonically charged track is the first to feature brand-new lead guitarist Teemu Mäntysaari, who makes his authoritative mark early in the song with a ferocious solo. His stamp on the track brings a sound that fans will remember from the revered Marty Friedman era of the band.
You would think that at 64 years old, Mustaine could struggle to conjure a potent and aggressive vocal performance; however, he proves that despite his previous throat cancer diagnosis, he is back and stronger than ever. He snarls his way through the verses, "Push me / I Push You Back", the track spurred by his unflinching delivery, packed with grit.
“We all have different ‘tipping points’ and they may vary from day to day,” said Mustaine when talking about the track. “We’re all being pushed to the edge right now, and it’s easy to lean into that feeling. But it’s important not to let things get you down.”
There's something about hearing the layering of thrashing riffs, shredding leads and Mustaine’s haunting vocals that even after four decades, Megadeth’s sound is still every bit as fresh and exciting as it ever was.
'Megadeth’ is due for release in January 2026. You can preorder it here.
