Manchester’s The Guest List have just released their powerful new single, ‘Weatherman’, a track that delivers both anthemic energy and a poignant message on the urgency of climate change.
This single has been a staple in The Guest List’s performances since October last year, quickly becoming a fan favourite thanks to the incredible reactions it sparks live. The track has especially stood out at festivals, where its power and urgent meaning resonate on a bigger scale, with the band’s live presence adding a new depth to the song.
Frontman Cai Alty urges, “I wrote the song as a reminder that this is not a so-called woke issue. It’s destroying homes and lives now, and will only get worse if we do not hold ourselves and our governments to account.”
The instrumentals in ‘Weatherman’ echo the significance of its message, beginning with the melodic guitar work of Thomas Quigley and Leio Hunter, and an electrifying bass from Sid Wallace. The sound gradually intensifies, rising into a powerful chorus before Angus Gilchrist’s drums kick in during the second verse, driving the track forward. Together, the instrumentals provide an atmospheric sound that perfectly complements Cai’s emotive vocals.
Cai Alty’s delivery brings the song’s lyricism to life, revealing a more vulnerable side to the track. Lyrics such as “Mama, I'm scared / They turned the blue skies red / And I barely can breathe this poison / I've cried ‘Somebody help me’ / But all the people are gone / I guess there's no hope no more” capture the fear and desperation at the heart of the track, making its message hit even harder.
The Guest List are heading off on their biggest UK tour, including 3 sold out shows at Camden Assembly and a hometown show at Manchester’s New Century Hall.
