Self-proclaimed folk horror songstress Amelia Coburn has returned with her striking new single, ‘Something Wild’.
Following on from the success of her debut album ‘Between the Moon and the Milkman’, Coburn continues to tap into the “weird and witchy” sound that she has coined.
The track is described as “a song for those who feel they have been shackled by modern society’s expectations.” That sentiment is echoed in Coburn’s lyrics, where she admits, “Swept the rage under the rug / Drown those urges, pull the plug,” before offering a glimmer of liberation with the refrain, “But I know there’s something in you / Something wild.”
Her words are lifted by cinematic string arrangements that heighten the spectral folk atmosphere and showcase the otherworldly aesthetic she has so compellingly developed. This is enhanced by the accompanying music video, where she reimagines the tale of ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, slipping into the character’s iconic red cloak to heighten the track’s mystique by compelling a classic fairytale.
The release also arrives with exciting news of Coburn’s biggest performance to date: a headline appearance at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 24 October. With ‘Something Wild’, she proves that her brand of dark, enchanting folk is only growing more ambitious - and more captivating.
