Hailing from New York, rising star Stella Nesci boasts a discography that weaves through the depths of Tate McRae-esque infectious pop and more melodic, stripped-back intonations ('I Can Fix Him').With her debut EP, 'Violently Aspiring' due out next month, we sat down with Nesci to chat big moments and fan interactions as part of the Seven Questions with Music Is To Blame series.
Introduce yourself and where you’re from.
I'm Stella Nesci, an eighteen-year-old singer, songwriter from Syracuse, New York.
What do our readers need to know about you?
Ever since I was younger, I've always made people watch me perform, whether it was in the living room trying to convince my family to have sleepovers or on the stages. I'm a big theater kid, and I feel like that definitely shines through when I'm on stage.
What have you got coming up that you’re most excited for?
I have a show coming up in NYC, and tickets are only twenty-five dollars! I also have my first ever EP coming out in October, 'Violently Aspiring', which grasps how intense our feelings can get when we take it out of the diary and place it into the real world, such as music.
My favorite track, titled 'Eulogy' touches on the concept of flipping the usually positive, highly honorable speech done at funerals into something negative. The song dives deep into a world where only people who have ever had something bad to say about you take the stand and share their perspective.I thought it was a really interesting way to touch on fake friendships. How even at something so sensitive as a funeral, there will still be dismay and judgement.
What’s the best run-in you’ve had with a fan?
This is actually the best thing ever. I recently went to see Tate McRae, and if you know anything about me, you would know that’s the biggest deal ever. A fan of my music actually came up to me and found me in an arena of 20k people. Long story short, I ended up joining her for the rest of the concert, and now I would say we're pretty great friends.
What’s been your biggest ‘I’ve made it’ moment so far?
Honestly, the fan accounts. I have never seen so many people edit me before, and it's just made me appreciate this journey so much more.
What are your three “desert island” albums?
I'd say my three deserted island albums right now would have to be: 'So Close To What' - Tate McRae, 'Who’s The Clown' - Audrey Hobert, and 'Voyeur' - Alessi Rose.
Sum up your sound in three words.
Moody, Timeless, Captivating.
