Set to head out on a headline tour later this year, we sat down with the band to discuss upcoming shows, fortune-teller fans, and playing Coachella for the first time.
Introduce yourselves and where you’re from.
We are late night drive home, a group of desert rats that used music as a creative outlet to cope with the struggles of growing up in this modern age. We spent most of our youth throwing rocks and staring at tumble weeds cross the road. Nothing but late night drives with the windows down and music blasting.
What do our readers need to know about you?
We’re just a couple of dudes from the desert that love to experience all that life has to offer. We try and etch our experiences, emotions, and thoughts into the listeners brains. Everything we write about comes directly from the heart for other people to hopefully resonate with.
what have you got coming up that you’re most excited for?
We’ve got a support tour coming up with The Happy Fits and we’re so excited to hear them perform live. Other than that there’s a desire to hop back into the studio and start writing more songs.
What’s the best run-in you’ve had with a fan?
One time a fan came up to us after one of our shows and told us he was from the future. He spoke his words of wisdom and told us that one day we would play the Reading & Leeds Festival. He lifted our drummer Brian up with one finger and flicked him out of the atmosphere, into outer space. When Brian was rocketing his way back down to earth, burning by the force of speed in which he was falling he did a kick flip, pulled a quarter from behind Andre’s ear, whipped out an inflatable pool from his back pocket, blew it up within 10 seconds, pulled a bucket of water out of his shoes and dumped the water into the pool just in time for Brian to land safely in the water.
One of the craziest moments of our lives.
What’s been your biggest 'We’ve made it' moment so far?
There are a few moments we can think of. One of them includes our first time playing at Coachella. It was the most surreal experience for us. Andre got to meet Faye Webster backstage and they were super cool and complimented his orange overalls.
Another moment was when we had the opportunity to open up for Pierce The Veil (they are super cool dudes). We also had the opportunity to chat with Cavetown for a while which was insane because those are two of Andre’s biggest inspirations when he was a wee lad.
What are your three "desert island" albums?
As a collective, like if the band was stuck on a desert island FOREVER, the general consensus would be, 'Hot Fuss' by The Killers (amazing album and how could you not go with this), 'Stankonia' by OutKast (so good), and 'Cardinal' by Pinegrove.
Sum up your sound in three words.
Rock and Roll.
