Out of Retirement and Ready to Rock: Aerosmith and Yungblud release ‘My Only Angel’

Aerosmith and Yungblud have released their 80s rock-infused new single, ‘My Only Angel’; the first song Aerosmith have released in 13 years and representing a new era for the band since their announcement of retirement only last year. Their latest single is the first track from the duo’s upcoming EP, ‘One More Time’, which is set to be released in November.

‘My Only Angel’ combines the iconic raspy dynamics of Aerosmith’s frontman Steven Tyler, with upcoming youthful rock talent Yungblud, whose authentic performance has been recognised by the likes of Ozzy Osborne. Tyler’s original bandmate and guitarist, Joe Perry, must also be credited with his unique riffs and funky rhythms, creating that timeless Aerosmith feel.

Tyler’s music career has spanned over 54 years and has seen him primarily as the lead singer of Boston-based rock group Aerosmith since 1970. The band was influenced by the all-time great, The Rolling Stones, as Tyler’s tight pants and lavish stage presence solidified him as the gritty persona of Mick Jagger.

Both Tyler and Yungblud performed at Ozzy Osborne’s Back to the Beginning final concert in July 2025. While the concert hosted an array of old rock and metal legends, Yungblud stood out as a new figurehead of the rock genre. On his social media, Yungblud expressed the close relationship he built with Ozzy Osborne since his appearance in a music video for ‘The Funeral’. Both Yungblud and Tyler came together this September and performed a tribute to Osborne at the MTV VMAs. The pair have a remarkable stage presence, so it seems that Tyler has taken Yungblud under his wing now that Ozzy has passed. The performance also hinted at a promising return to the stage for Steven Tyler since his throat injury and surgery a couple of years ago.

The new single, ‘My Only Angel’, was released with an accompanying visual. Notably, the lack of CGI, special effects and animations truly reflects the intentional 80s theme. In the video, we get to see the recording process, photoshoots and interactions between Perry, Tyler and Yungblud. The video felt raw and expressive without needing any visual filler, enabling the audience to feel connected to the artists. Their collaboration on this new song serves to show the monumental influence of the rock genre, but also demonstrates a new era of rock music which brings together the tones of the 1970s and 80s with the new inventive energy of the modern era.

This new song feels refreshing for Aerosmith and is only the beginning of their latest EP. It’s exciting for new and old fans of the rock genre to see these two amazing artists perform and record together. Yungblud has an extremely promising future and deserves recognition for his dedication to bringing new life back to rock.
