Boxing Club Are Here And First In The Ring Is 'Barbra'

"Have you seen my mate Barbra?”

They’ve been making their name and bringing hints of Glasgow to London’s underground scene for the past year.
Now, post-punk quartet Boxing Club are elevating themselves into new territory with debut single, ‘Barbra’.
But who exactly is Barbra? Well, “She’ll tie you up and slap you silly / Tickle you to death, no she has no pity”.
Barbra is as new to us as Boxing Club is, and it’s apparent that the band intends to draw attention to the chaos and curiosity of life’s encounters through dramatic, accentuated vocals and frank yet animated lyrics.
Its chords are reminiscent of The All-American Rejects Dirty Little Secret’, but with less cheeky, American vocals or pop-leaning melodies. Instead, ‘Barbra’ is pumped with vigour and drenched in British indie-rock as the lead singer feverishly warns, “She’ll spit you out / Then eat you up”.
Despite this, the track comes to a close with the admission, “I once had a lover and cannot forget her / I buried the truth and I should have known better”.
It seems there’s more to Barbra than initially thought, making Boxing Club’s introduction to the world - outside London’s music scene - a theatrical, post-punk number that leaves listeners excited for their next single.
