Tessa and Friends Explore Self-Identity On ‘SUNRISE HUNTERS’

Tessa Forrest and her whimsical ghosts return with the brand-new single, ‘SUNRISE HUNTERS’. She continues to explore the delicate balance between vulnerability and resilience, crafting a soundscape that feels expansive yet intimate.

‘SUNRISE HUNTERS’ explores the theme of identity by portraying the inner struggle of escaping the past and attempting to reinvent oneself. It captures the emotional complexities of wanting to become someone new, to feel more confident and freer, but ultimately met with the realisation that who we are inevitably lingers and that’s not a bad thing.

Tessa cleverly uses imagery and metaphors of a chase, with lyrics like: “Those scars will stay the same, you know / Wherever you will go / That ghost will follow you.”  This theme is mirrored in the contrasting tempos, a slow, hazy, synth-laced introduction metaphorically reflects an idealised self, dream-like and detached, suggesting to be an illusion of reinvention.

A faint ticking sound breaks this illusion, subtly signalling that this false persona is temporary. Tessa seizes this moment for a striking tempo shift: replaced with a thudding drumbeat bursting in.

‘SUNRISE HUNTERS’ accelerates with dynamic guitar layers and pounding drums, sonically embodying the past catching up, whilst still attempting to escape it. As the tension peaks, the tempo gently recedes, circling back to the track’s dreamy opening, symbolising acceptance and a sense of peace.

The track is a striking new addition to Tessa and Friends' growing catalogue. It is whimsical yet sonically bold, capturing the emotional push and pull that comes with self-transformations and acceptance.
