Terrianne is a Derby native who has received critical acclaim and national support from the likes of The Arts Council and BBC Introducing. Her high-energy performances and pop-influenced tracks have helped to create her niche in the field.
As part of Music Is To Blame's What's to Blame? interview series, we sat down with Terrianne after her set at this year's Y Not festival.
Would you like to introduce yourself and tell us where you're from?
I'm Terrianne, I'm from Derby, and I just played the BBC Introducing stage!
We'd like to know what's to blame for your career. What was it that inspired you to pursue music?
What is to blame? I think maybe my piano teacher. I started writing when I was twelve, in my piano lessons, and I'd be like, 'I've written this little song!'. He'd encourage me to keep going with it. I've never actually thought about it in that way. Like, what it is that's to blame for me getting into music? But yeah.
What is the biggest difference between your sound when you first began making music and your sound today?
Oh wow. I think I know who I am more now. I think that's always going to be an ongoing thing, but I know what I want out of a sound. I know what I wanted out of a producer, and I'm just a bit clearer when I go into the studio. It's like “this is the sound I want to make”. It's gritty now, it's got guitar-based stuff in there, and I'm not afraid to hold back and let my voice out.
Seeing as we're here at Y-Not, how do you think festivals compare to the other gigs you play throughout the year?
Festivals are the best. Festivals are my favourite. Nothing compares to a festival. It's just everyone being in a good vibe. I mean, they are at gigs anyway, but you know, it's just different. We're all in a field, everyone's got glitter on! You can wear whatever. Everyone's in crazy outfits. Yeah, I love it.
It is a cool vibe! So, have there been any artists you've managed to catch who you've really loved, or anyone you're looking forward to seeing?
We saw loads of people yesterday. Luvcat was amazing. Drew (Thomas), Eighty Eight Miles, we saw The Last Dinner Party, Sigrid. All of them were amazing. I'm really excited for Madness, actually, because when I used to come to this festival when I was sixteen/seventeen, Madness played. So I feel like I'm reliving that! I love Madness!
Me too. I also saw Eighty Eight Miles - being from Burton! I had to go and support.
Yeah, they were amazing! I mean, Ellie's next level - so good.
What do you think your highlight has been so far of 2025?
This! Today! Definitely, this has been on my goal list for a long time.
