With a unique style sculpted from an uncompromising desire to continuously push boundaries, Jehnny Beth is well versed in producing music that channels diverse inspiration.
In new single ‘No Good For People’, the latest release from Beth’s forthcoming album ‘You Heartbreaker, You’, tormented vocals collide with blood-rushing instrumentation to accompany conflicting themes of self-doubt and resilience.
A deranged and discomforting opening characterised by Beth talking over tense guitar sounds and lyrics such as “You haven’t found a way to kill me yet” and “I’m still standing”, serves to beat on the chest of the imagination and plunge the listener into a sweat dripping insanity.
While Beth explores ideas of defiance and fearlessness in ‘No Good For People’, introspection is the key theme of the track, with the repetition of the paradoxical admission ‘I am too critical’ imprinted on the listener’s brain.
The coalescing of electronic sounds creates a maelstrom of paranoia that takes over the psyche. In the pockets of space between jagged vocal melodies, soaring digital intonations add fuel to the fire of the already high energy track and compliment the unhinged agitation this song creates.
Beth continues to say no to normal and is fierce in her approach, as her punk roots remain the driving force behind her music. ‘No Good For People’ follows the release of recent singles ‘Broken Rib’ and ‘Obsession’ and the announcement of a brief run of UK shows in September.
