Following the deluxe edition of his latest album, ‘Kansas Anymore’, Tucker Pillsbury (better known as Role Model) has just dropped a nostalgic, heart-filled music video for standout track, ‘The Longest Goodbye’, featuring Grammy-winning Laufey.
This new version is directed by Neema Sadeghi and leans into the track's melancholic melodies, offering viewers a beautifully simple, yet impactful, visual narrative.
The black and white colouring, paired with a vintage performance, sees Tucker and Laufey trading verses while a full band play behind them, contrasting Role Model’s husky tone with Laufey’s classical elegance. The vocals, paired with a simple recording of them performing the duet, is a masterclass in restraint.
The entire video feels intimate without being indulgent or exploitative: it’s emotional without the melodrama, being able to, both visually and lyrically, encompass the slow, painful period where nothing has ended between two who were once in-love, even though everything already seems to be lost.
Overall, ‘The Longest Goodbye’ is a slow storm of emotion, which is reflected in the song's composition and the music video. Through delicate instrumentals, introspective lyrics, and a nostalgic black and white filter, the song paints a portrait of a farewell that never quite finishes.
Together, they form a meditation on love, loss, and the haunting beauty of holding on just a little longer. It’s heartbreaking and hopeful, and worth taking the time to experience.
