No Joy Dissects Her Nostalgic Past With Latest Single ‘Bits’

Montreal-based musical project, No Joy, (Jasamine White-Gluz), may be familiar with reinvention after a five-year discography that spans across the genres from shoegaze brilliance to gritty nu-metal; however, ‘Bits’ taken from the upcoming album ‘Bugland’ (Out August 8th) is a shining supernova in its own right.

From the get-go,’ Bits’ pulls the listener right to the centre of its thrilling musical storm, as swirling with Earthquaker Devices Bit Commander Pedal style distorted foggy guitars, striking percussion and bright sparkling synth lines, as well as soaring, shoegaze vocals that own and occupy every note. This isn’t just a piece of great music, but it's an experience in every sense; it's hypnotic yet awakening at the same time.

Its power doesn’t just stop there either lyrically this track is both personal and distinctly from the heart, utilizing excerpts from a childhood letter written by singer Jasamine defending and calling for Hole lead Singer, Courtney Love to be left alone in1994, particularly in its spoken word final section, to help create a nostalgic, poetic treat that’s paced similar to the energy rush of a game of hide and seek or running through tall grass in a sunny haze. It's the perfect listen at a time where uncertainty feels familiar and nostalgia is ever more tempting to dip into. The perfect listen to sink your teeth into this summer.
