Coach Party are back! The Isle of Wight natives are back with their spacey new single, ‘Do Yourself A Favour’, from their upcoming second album,' Caramel', and proving why you should be paying attention. rev
The sharp guitars, ethereal vibe, and detached vocals give this release a distinct feel. They lean into this more dreamy aesthetic while exploring procrastination and the inevitable anxiety and guilt that come from it.
The lyrics capture that vibe of detachment that people feel when putting off important tasks, and Jess Eastwood, the lead singer, reinforces this through her tone and delivery. Lyrics such as “Decisions, you root me to the floor/Don't guilt me anymore, no,” convey the weight of the feeling and the desire to break out of the cycle.
The chorus of “Wake up (wake up) do yourself a favour” feels prime and ready for fans to shout back at the band in a live setting, and powered by the roar of the guitars, it feels like an anthem that could define the band (in a good way).
Coach Party have managed to distil this feeling into a three-minute song, which is a feat in itself. They also show the variety in their sound. Compared to their strong last single, ‘Girls’, this one feels refreshingly different while still matching the group's vibe.
