Asha Banks breathes new life into Holly Humberstone’s 2024 single, ‘Dive’

Fans have been waiting eagerly for some new Holly Humberstone material, and whilst a reimagined version of ‘Dive’ was not what we were expecting, it’s welcomed nonetheless.

The 2024 single, featured on Humberstone’s EP, ‘work in progress’garnered major success and was even featured in various movie and TV show soundtracks, including Amazon Prime’s, We Were Liars. and more notably, My Fault: London. The latter movie is what led us to this recent collaboration between Humberstone and singer/actress Asha Banks, who starred in My Fault: London.Banks, who had her song, ‘The Rush’ featured shortly after Humberstone’s in the movie’s end credits, has set her sights on working with Humberstone, merging sounds to offer a new life to ‘Dive.’

The pair teased the song earlier this month with an acoustic performance in  Hyde Park, ahead of Banks' supporting performance for Noah Kahan’s BST Hyde Park gig. The performance was intimate, with both women showcasing their soft, yet powerful vocals. Even though the track didn’t feature any new verse from Banks, her vocal contribution added lovely texture and shine to the song. The blend of voices compliment each other, with so much feeling conveyed, especially when Banks takes over the third verse, delivering lines like, “i ruin everything/ so i’ll give you a fair warning.” The delivery of this line, and even Bank’s vibrato for ‘everything’, comes across with some sort of frustration. The delivery is so palpable it feels as though she had written the words herself, every word is so beautifully emphasised and felt.

When discussing the collaboration, Humberstone took to instagram to explain, “i’ve loved Asha’s music for a while now... it’s very special to have her on this version with me, she really gave the song a new lease of life.” The song feels like two artists with mutual respect, just doing what they do best. Both their sounds aren’t too different from each other, but they uniquely add something, paying off with an ethereal sounding version of ‘Dive.’ We couldn’t be more obsessed.

It’s uncertain whether Humberstone plans to release any new projects any time soon, but Banks has just released her latest EP, ‘Unite My Tongue.’ So at least fans have something to enjoy, whilst we eagerly wait for new material.
