Beautiful, hopeful, and urgent. English rock icons, Wunderhorse, amaze yet again with their latest release, ‘The Rope’.
Sticking to the well established and much loved vibes of the band, not too dissimilar from previous tracks such as ‘Midas’, ‘The Rope’ is punchy, anthemic and packed to the brim with emotion.
The opening guitars grip your attention straight away, they’re bold, brass and immediately let you know that Wunderhorse have produced yet another fantastic song.
It then builds into an expected yet highly anticipated guitar solo that breaks away from the angry and darker tones of the beginning. Complimented by the drums, it slowly starts to encompass the desperate and slightly hopeful message of the song: continuing on, even when you feel like you can’t.
Jacob Slater’s stunning voice is only exemplified by his vocalisation near the end, adding a warming depth to the song which truly takes it to dizzying new heights. The smooth, comforting tones stay with you long after the track finishes and help drive the message to keep pushing forward.
This is only furthered by the desperation that’s heard in the repetition of “Don’t let go” at the end. This winds down into a cacophony of noise, providing a pleasant comedown from the high energy of the song, acting as a chance to catch your breath before ultimately playing it on repeat.
It’s messy and unflinching, capturing the pure unadulterated essence of rock. ‘The Rope’ marks an exciting new journey for the band and firmly proves the need to get into them now, before they’re selling out stadiums worldwide.
