The Drive. Explore Raw Emotion With New Single ‘Shelley.’

After their last EP, ‘in reverseThe Drive. are back with their latest single, ‘Shelley.’- and it has definitely marked the start of their new era.

The grunge band has quickly established their presence across Ireland, with their captivating live shows and stage presence, but it’s not just this that has fans hooked.

Like much music, listeners seek relatability and a chance to feel understood through song. Something that The Drive. are not lacking, with their subject matter covering topics from young relationships to self-identity. While much of their music draws inspiration from artists like The Cure, Radiohead and The Smiths, they still manage to incorporate their own experience and worldview to their music, making their catalog feel both nostalgic and fresh.

The release of their new single addresses romance, with a hint of jealousy, discussing a partner moving on with someone new. Set to a brooding guitar, the atmospheric reverb almost enhances these feelings of dread- as though there’s a sense of drowning in the bitter feeling of romantic betrayal. The drums fill the space effectively, crescendoing to illustrate the growing anger and frustration felt before it reaches a breaking point in the chorus.

Vocalist for the band, Eoin Murphy reaches the hook with commanding vocals, mixed well to the building drums. The symbiotic nature between the vocals and production are all encompassing, demanding that the emotion is conveyed to the listener. This track is a prime example of music’s power as a communicative tool, allowing both the artist and the listener to engage with their emotions. It’s clear The Drive. Are continuing to improve, showcasing an even more mature sound to their previous work.

The group are set to play a show in London on the 26th June, along with a home-bound gig in Cork on earlier on the 21st. There’s no doubt experiencing this latest song live will only make fans like it more.
