Whilst on tour, Fender and Dean have collaborated on the song, giving fans a shock sneak peek of the new verse and breathtaking vocal combination. After clips have circulated online of the duo's performance - Fender announced the release of the single only three days before its release last week and fans have already been loving the new track.
The heart felt anthem from his third album, ‘People Watching’, known for its nostalgic guitar and bittersweet lyrics (including the powerful line - “all my memories of you ring like tinnitus”., using this reference to reflect his futile defiance of the constant memories) has now gained whole new layers of meaning with the feature of Dean’s soothing feminine vocals and powerful lyricism. The pair have created a perfect blend of voices to enhance the already heart wrenching track, allowing the vocals to build and fade throughout the song’s progression.
Fender, in a recent Instagram post, regarded how “Olivia added a female perspective to the song, and I think it’s all the better for it”. Such an idea reflects itself in the lyrics and the combination of the two voices, sharing the song through both individual and intertwined sections which echo the ‘push and pull’ of the relationship it represents.
Olivia’s feminine take has also made way for a whole new verse, complimenting the existing male perspective and highlighting a voice which wasn’t previously there. “Come home/ Don’t run away from my tenderness”, adding a poignant vein of desire from an alternate female perspective, which was previously absent, and highlighting the cathartic avoidance from the existing voice of “a man too proud to reach for a hand”
