Eden Rain’s latest single, ‘Growing Pains’, is a perfect use of a stripped-back acoustic track, allowing listeners to lean into its sombre and deeply relatable lyricism.
Released on June 18th, the song differs from her typically upbeat alt-pop style; this time, her vocals are accompanied solely by a mellow piano, creating an intimate sense of vulnerability that underscores the emotional weight of the track.
‘Growing Pains’ plays like a quiet cry for help, exploring the slow dissolution of a relationship that once meant everything. Within this, Rain wonders aloud whether others have felt “the pain that’s tried to split them in two pieces”, capturing the disorienting sense of change without warning. The lyrics are steeped in a profound heartbreak, as she reflects on knowing what the relationship needed to thrive, only to feel knocked down by the very person she hoped to grow with “you cut me down just to grow”.
The closing line, “you’ve never grown”, is mirrored by the unchanging chord progression, subtly suggesting how the presence of this person lingers, even if only in memory. This single is a tender reflection on emotional imprint and unreciprocated growth, which many will find deeply resonant.
Coinciding with the release, Eden Rain has announced her biggest headline show to date at Oslo Hackney in London on Tuesday, October 14th. She’ll be joined by her band, with promises of new merch and new music.
