Spacey Jane: A Return, A Tour, and An Album Through Their Teeth

Australian Indie-rock group Spacey Jane are building momentum for their freshly announced new album, ‘If That Makes Sense’ with a new tour and a new single. Dreamy and distant, ‘Through My Teeth’ feels like the best and worst parts of high school, from a first kiss and learning to drive.

We are introduced to our unreliable narrator, "I've been lying through my teeth again / Through my teeth again / It's how I made it past my seventeenth”. As we don't know what's true or not, we have no use but to trust it.

Frontman Caleb Harper told Rolling Stone that he deals with “the guilt and dissonance that come with growing up”, and he captures that essence in this opening track. The growing tension between the singer’s longing and the magnetic hook feel like growing up. The self questioning, "Is it enough to be lonely? / How can I pay for this, honey?” is an addictive sound over the guitar.

Through motifs of partying, loss, and lying, the song allows us to see Spacey Jane outside of their bandhood and more of their life.

With a shoegaze twist to their new music so far, ‘Through My Teeth’ is the perfect introduction to the new era of Spacey Jane. According to DORK, the album will “explore themes of falling in and out of love, overcoming trauma, and rebuilding”.

The forthcoming album is set for release on May 9th with production by Mike Crossey (The 1975Arctic MonkeysWolf Alice), and songwriting contributions from Jackson Phillips (of Day Wave) and Sarah Aarons (Ruel).

Their Australia and New Zealand tour begins May 24th and tickets can be purchased here.
