Found Instruments Explore Nostalgia And Change In New Single ‘Memory Shift’

Found Instruments, the solo project of Jack Joseph Titcombe, returns with ‘Memory Shift’—a hazy, melancholic indie track that floats between nostalgia and acceptance.

Laden with shimmering, fizzy synths, layered harmonies, and dreamy vocals, the single transports listeners into an ethereal soundscape reminiscent of Tame Impala, Beach House, and Djo.

Entirely written, recorded, and mixed by Titcombe, ‘Memory Shift’ is a carefully crafted piece of wonky psychedelia and lo-fi dream-pop. His soft, weightless vocals drift over warm synth pads and reverb-drenched guitars, creating an immersive sonic world praised by the likes of BBC Introducing. James Baldwin’s precise yet flowing percussion provides a steady undercurrent, while the tambourine adds a subtle vintage charm, nodding to The Beatles’ psych-pop influence.

Lyrically, ‘Memory Shift’ explores the fleeting nature of emotions and relationships. “Thinking about where do we go from here? / Were we naive to think that it’d be made clear?” captures a sense of disillusionment, while the refrain “Memories shift, feelings fade” reinforces the song’s core theme of impermanence. Titcombe’s introspective songwriting pairs perfectly with the song’s lush textures, evoking the wistful reflections of artists like Mac DeMarco and Toro y Moi.

Mastered by Timothy Stollenwerk, ‘Memory Shift’ is a beautifully layered track, effortlessly blending vintage warmth with modern psychedelia—an evocative meditation on change and memory that lingers long after the final note fades.
